Sacrum Profanum Festival
Why Patterns (Feldman, Dlugoszewski)
From avant-garde Polish composers, the festival will present above all the work of Lucia Dlugoszewski, who has been active in the United States. A composer whose work is still completely unknown in our country. Only after last year’s efforts was it possible to locate the scores of the composer who died in 2000 (they will soon be published as well). Thanks to this, within the Sacrum Profanum framework it will be possible to hear as many as three of her compositions, including a composition arranged by Hashtag Ensemble. Her performance will be accompanied by improvised dance. Dlugoszewski’s music was very often created for the choreography of her husband – Erick Hawkins. Her work, due to its sound innovation, is placed in the same category as the music of Harry Partch, Pauline Oliveros and Moondog.
We will also present Morton Feldman – a representative of the experimental New York compositional school. It was in this environment that he met Dlugoszewski. Feldman wrote quiet music, slowly developing, with unorganized rhythm, with blurred pitch ranges. We will hear the work Why Patterns? for trio from 1978.
