Jarosław Płonka life of a ghost for cello and chamber ensemble
Natural Intelligence by Nikolet Burzyńska is a reflection on the concept of natural intelligence in the context of the growing dominance of artificial intelligence. The composition asks questions about the role of humans and other beings in the cosmic order and their relationship with AI. The inspiration for creating the work came from the composer’s contemplation on what humans can do to avoid getting lost in the upcoming technological revolution. Organicity, timelessness, wildness and chaos meet in this work to express the doubts of the contemporary world.
For Jarosław Płonka, the score of life of a ghost became something like a personal diary. The composer compared the creative process to the painting technique of action painting or literary stream of consciousness, where the creator expresses themselves in a spontaneous and unconstrained manner. The composition consists of two parts: Limbo and Life after, and the main instrument – the cello – becomes more of a provocateur of musical events than a soloist.
