This year AżTak Festival will take audiences to completely new territories and – turning attention away for a moment from fake news, climate crisis and armed conflicts – will encourage entering a private, intimate space known only to them.
During the festival events, Hashtag Ensemble will propose deep reflection on the surrounding reality, healthy activism realized in cooperation with local communities and regaining contact with one’s own body and emotions.
This year’s festival theme is HOME. Just a few months ago we opened a social cultural institution – Hashtag Lab Contemporary Music Space. A villa in Stara Ochota has become our first, permanent musical home, and at the same time a home for contemporary music in Warsaw. That is why we invite you here for evening concerts. We will perform on the summer stage and inside the modernist building at Barska 29. We will also be present in the city space, we will search for new forms of listening, we will find time for a moment of returning to a body tired by the long winter.
During the first day of the festival we invite you to the opening of a photography exhibition created using pinhole cameras constructed under the direction of Kacper Bartczak and interpreting home as a space of many meanings. Selected photographs will serve the improvising group Hashtag Ensemble as graphic scores in an evening concert.
The second day of the festival will bring music of home “à rebours”, bad home, where we encounter our deepest fears. A performative concert under the title “Shudder” will be filled with compositions by Nina Fukuoka, constituting a study of fear within the composer’s “Horror Project”. Almost every corner of Hashtag Lab will sound unsettling, and after the concert we invite you to a film screening and discussion.
In the festival finale you will hear a concert titled “Touch”, during which home is the space of our closest relationships. We will hear loving compositions by Julia Wolfe, Kevin Juillerat, Jacob Ter Veldhuis and Jakub Kreeg. After the concert we invite you to an afterparty in the garden.
