Mateusz Loska, born 1986 in Tychy, double bassist and chamber musician, a performer developing his skills and interests in improvisation and interpretation of broadly defined new music. Between 2007 and 2009 he studied double bass under Prof. Piotr Czerwiński at the Academy of Music in Poznań, and subsequently under Dr Szymon Guzowski. As a soloist and chamber musician he has performed at festivals and events including Warsaw Autumn, Poznań Musical Spring, KODY Festival of Tradition and Musical Avant-Garde, Silesian Days of Contemporary Music, Silesian Composers’ Tribunes, International Composers’ Forum in Poznań, MUSICACOUSTICA Beijing, Estonian Music Days in Tallinn, Randfestspiele Zepernik, Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin, Foyer Européen in Luxembourg, the 200th Anniversary of the University of Music in Vienna, and the International Contemporary Music Festival in Tehran.

He has participated in masterclasses led by Evgeni Kolosov (Moscow), Bonawentura Nanck (Rostock), François Rabbath (Paris), Rinat Ibragimov (London/Bern), Leon Bosch (London), Thierry Barbé (Paris), MBE Chi-Chi Nwanoku (London), Aleksander Gabryś (Basel/Katowice), Klaus Trumpf (Munich), Yi Song (Beijing), Sonia Ray (Goiânia City/São Paulo), and Thomas Martin (London). Throughout his career, as an orchestral and chamber musician, he has performed over 600 times on the stages of 29 European countries, the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia, Georgia, and Iran. He has taken part in creating sound installations. Winner of the 1st prize at the “Closer to Warsaw Autumn” competition. He currently performs as an active member of contemporary music ensembles: Warsaw-based #Ensemble and Poznań-based Sepia Ensemble. He also collaborates with the Kraków-based Spółdzielnia Muzyczna ensemble. Creator of soundtracks for animated, short, and independent films.
