Right after New Year, the world begins to take on the shape of a red heart. The commercial vision of love that bombards us from all sides around Valentine’s Day seems to convince us that human relationships are simple, unambiguous, fitting into a single prescribed image. However… it’s complicated.

This evening at Hashtag Lab we will examine love, partnerships, and relationships from many angles. There are as many visions of love as there are people in the world. Sometimes despite having a vision, you can’t find it, or it is so difficult that it is easier when it doesn’t exist. Sometimes it doesn’t exist by choice. Often this vision changes over the years, just as love changes in a long-term relationship. Tenderness and rot – two forces that struggle for dominance within it. Sometimes tenderness gives way and love fades. And what if from the very beginning it was based on divergences and opposites? Can it endure in differences and frictions that remain an active force?

In the digital era, human relationships (not just romantic ones) have undergone changes that were unthinkable just a few decades ago. A long-distance relationship? In the past, only letters sustained it, and you had to wait for them for weeks; later came telephones. Today, in an instant, you can connect with someone thousands of kilometres away and feel close. But you can also sit with someone on the same sofa and be far away. Nah aber fern, fern aber nah.

Together with Che Buford, Sangjun Lee, Elia Perinu, Hong San Hyung, and Paweł Malinowski, we will try to capture the essence of what makes people want to be together. Most likely it will remain elusive. Untitled. Because it’s complicated.

After the concert, we invite you to watch two short films from Studio Munka – Aria Diva directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska and Gorzko by Marcin Kluczykowski. Jan Topolski will introduce the subject, and together we will explore how the themes of love and music intertwine in top-shelf cinema.
