On April 19, we commemorated the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, during which several hundred fighters of the Jewish underground responded with armed resistance to the German decision to liquidate the ghetto. Around 50 thousand Jews, civilians, hid for many weeks in hideouts and bunkers, where they fought for each successive “day, hour, minute”. In light of the Russian aggression against Ukraine that has been ongoing since February 24, 2022, it is difficult to commemorate this anniversary without relating it to contemporary times. In Ukraine today, people are fighting, dying, hiding, and suffering – just as they did then.
