Jubilee Marathon of the Composition Department as part of the International Scientific Conference “Independent Polish Music”
The Jubilee Marathon of the Composition Department (#KatKomp2018) is an event included in the celebrations of the 130th anniversary of the Krakow Academy of Music, as a complement to the International Scientific Conference “Independent Polish Music”, organized on November 29 – December 1 by the Department of Theory and Interpretation of Musical Works.
The idea of the Marathon is to present selected works from the achievements of the pedagogues who co-create today’s Composition Department (a unit that has existed since 1957), as a significant contribution to the modern face of our country’s musical culture, emphasizing the individuality of artistic and aesthetic attitudes, originality and diversity of compositional techniques.
“From Penderecki to Chołoniewski” – this is how one could characterize the Marathon program, albeit in a greatly simplified way. The presented repertoire will include chamber works by all fifteen creators co-shaping the complex present of the Composition Department. These are, in order of performance:
Krzysztof Penderecki,
Józef Rychlik,
Mateusz Bień,
Michał Pawełek,
Wojciech Ziemowit Zych,
Wojciech Widłak,
Jarosław Płonka,
Piotr Peszat,
Michał Gronowicz,
Karol Nepelski,
Maciej Jabłoński,
Anna Zawadzka-Gołosz,
Magdalena Długosz,
Marcel Chyrzyński, Marek Chołoniewski (in a dual role as author and performer).
Their works, mostly composed in recent years, will be performed by such renowned artists and ensembles as:
Łukasz Długosz Trio,
Cracow Duo (guest appearance with Barbara Borowicz),
Hashtag ensemble.
The event will be completed by scientific papers by Krzysztof Szwajgier and Małgorzata Janicka-Słysz, who will also lead a panel with the participation of composers.
