Composer Portraits
DECEMBER 10 AND 11, 2019 (TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY) 18:00
Composer Portraits have been organized by the Polish Composers’ Union since 1988. Initially, concerts were held in the Artistic Cellar of Wanda Warska and Andrzej Kurylewicz, then at Polish Music Publishing at Fredry Street in Warsaw, and for several years now at the headquarters of the Mazovian Institute of Culture at Elektoralna Street 12 in Warsaw, a co-organizer of the cycle.
Every year during this festival, chamber works by several contemporary Polish composers are presented. Each day features two concerts, each devoted to the work of one composer. The festival, presenting new ambitious music, responds to the cognitive curiosity of audiences of various generations. The presence of composers at the concerts and the opportunity for direct contact with them makes the reception of their work more accessible. The program is generally arranged so that listeners can become acquainted with works characteristic of a given composer’s output. The concerts are generally recorded and broadcast by Program 2 of Polish Radio in a series of special programs dedicated to Composer Portraits.
Leading Polish artists as well as talented musicians of the youngest generation, winners of performance competitions, are invited to perform the works.
