WarszeMuzik III edition of chamber concerts
“TENEMENT HOUSE”
31.08.2019, 18:00
Location: Warsaw – Wola, Chłodna 41
Artist-activists who participated in this year’s edition of WarszeMuzik will perform in the final concert, working with residents and engaging in discovering the musical history of the Northern District of pre-war Warsaw.
The program will feature chamber music by Mieczysław Weinberg and Zygmunt Kassern, as well as the world premiere of a work by Composer-in-Residence at WarszeMuzik 2019, Agnieszka Stulgińska. A piece for tenement house, 4 gramophones and chamber ensemble will be performed by the Hashtag Ensemble cooperative, and residents of the tenement house and activists will participate in its realization. To create the music-installation, the musicians and volunteers will use not only classical instruments, but also analog phonographs and original pre-war shellac records, and the sound sources will be placed in 9 locations throughout the tenement house, utilizing stairwells and vacant spaces. The tenement house will become in this way a kind of instrument, capable of telling its own history.
